In an attempt to say thank you for all of the orders my uncle has made this past month I brought him over this tray of fleur de lis when he invited us over for dinner tonight. My sister Laura had actually found the cookie cutter while we were out shopping this week and we decided it would make the perfect cutter for a tray of cookies for Joe because that symbol is a main staple of his home's decor. (In fact I teased him tonight telling him he has more fleur de lis in his home than the entire French Quarter in New Orleans:) )

One Person's Trash is Another Person's Treasure
I've really found this statement to be true as I've proceeded along my cookie making journey. There have been many projects that I have completed that I have felt a strong desire to toss into the trash immediately, that I have instead shown to others, who not only like them, but end up ordering them. Case in point are the ornament cookies I made earlier this week. Although nothing in particular wrong with the cookies, they were a batch that I had no intentions of showing anyone because I was not completely happy with them. Instead I decided to post them here and send a text message with them to my Uncle Joe. He not only liked them he placed an order for two baskets for this weekend. Moral of the story: There is always someone out there who is going to appreciate something you make.

Tortoise and the Hare
Tonight while finishing making a quick batch of cookies in order to use up some of the extra dough I had from this past weekend's projects I was reminded of an old fable I heard as a child that I should have taken into consideration while making my cookies. This fable is the story of the Tortoise and the Hare. As with anything someone is attempting to make money at speed is key, and I've really been trying to cut down on my production time, however as I witnessed tonight sometimes "Slow and Steady wins the race." Just as I was setting the cookies down to take pictures of what I had accomplished, I got myself into too much of a hurry and didn't take the precautions I normally do and I flipped the basket. Its fall caused me to blotch up some of my cookies and seriously ruined the "O" in the NOEL. As you'll see in the pictures below the "O" looks a little out of place. However I still wanted to include the basket and NEL just didn't make sense : ) Lesson hopefully learned!!!!

Dreaming of A White Christmas
One thing about living in Houston is that the holiday season always sneaks up on me because of the lack of winter like weather. (As a native Wisconsinite this "cold spell" we've been having does not count!) So after creating the basket for my uncle's party last night, I decided to keep trucking with the winter theme and finish up four baskets today that he had asked me to make for his neighbors. He had found these beautiful baskets at Hobby Lobby and filling them with blue, silver and white winter cookies was the perfect finishing touch. Real happy with the way these baskets turned out.
Late December
I have been taking a vacation this month from cookie making - ironic considering this is the time of year that most people make more cookies than normal. However, today my Uncle Joe broke me out of my reprieve when he asked me to make cookies for his holiday get together.

November Birthdays
I had two birthday orders over the Thanksgiving weekend. One order was for a friend of a friend who wanted purple butterflies. I threw in some pink ones too to add a bit of dimension. I have had the containers I used for this project for months and was finally able to use them with an appropriately themed bouquet. This weekend was also Nick's 16th birthday. I told him he could have whatever he wanted... a cake, cheesecake, cupcakes.......... He said all he wanted were some cookies! So I made him some sports cars with the number 16 on them : ) I got stuck at the mall and didn't have as much time to put as much detail into them as I would have liked, but for a first attempt they turned out OK.

Sunday Afternoon Cookie Extravaganza : )
Today was a busy, busy day!!! My mom was in town for the weekend and asked me to make her cookies to take home with her. I couldn't decide what exactly I wanted to make her - so I made her a variety. I think the winter hat and gloves are my fav : )

Dr's Orders
This week was another busy one. I had two cookie orders and attempted to get the house spic and span for my mother and sister's visit. My first order was the mascot for "Monster High." (Shown below) A girl I went to high school with asked me to make 20 and mail them to Wisconsin for her daughter's birthday - until she asked me for them I had never heard of the dolls. The mascot reminds me of a gothic version of Hello Kitty, which is perhaps why I ended up making more Hello Kitty's this week.
One of the Doctors at my office saw the cookies I was going to mail off, which lead to me showing him my blog and his order of cookies for his granddaughter's birthday. I hope he enjoys the Hello Kitty Cookies and I hope the Monster High cookies make it safely to Wisco.

Finished up two projects today. One for a baby shower and the other for a birthday party. Happy with the results for both occasions : ) However it might be a couple of days before I willingly pick up a cookie cutter ; )

Beautiful Fall Morning - Weekend of Projects : )
Woke up early this morning to take advantage of this beautiful fall day. I have two cookie orders this weekend to finish up - one for a co-worker's baby shower gift and another for a 10-year-olds birthday party. Spent part of the morning outside finalizing and sealing the display below that will be used for the 10-year-olds cookies. The letters were pre-made of course, but I did drill the holes and paint and seal them myself. (I'm power tool illiterate - so I'm happy with the results.) More pictures to follow : )
